One unexpected (to me at least) way I have seen this is where the DBA =
for the remote database put a timeout in the profile for the remote =
account. =20

Thus:

1) Use the link.

2) Wait too long.

3) Remote instance terminates the process

4) Try to use it again

5) ORA-3113 (See ORA-3113.ora-code.com)
